This national and international leadership is documented by notable contributions to research published in leading journals and/or books and creative accomplishments widely recognized for excellence; prestigious awards and citations; and a substantial record of invited lectures or performances delivered at prestigious institutions. These individuals also demonstrate significant leadership by raising University standards with respect to teaching, research or creative activity, and service; cultivating excellent teaching skills; and contributing significantly to the education of students who later are recognized for excellence in their fields.
AAAS Fellows are a distinguished cadre of scientists, engineers and innovators who have been recognized for their achievements across disciplines, from research, teaching, and technology, to administration in academia, industry and government, to excellence in communicating and interpreting science to the public. Election as a Fellow honors members whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications in service to society have distinguished them among their peers and colleagues.
The Fellows program recognizes AGU members who have made exceptional contributions to Earth and space science through a breakthrough, discovery, or innovation in their field. Fellows act as external experts, capable of advising government agencies and other organizations outside the sciences upon request.
Fellows are selected for their outstanding contributions to the atmospheric sciences and/or their application during a substantial period of years. Only two-tenths of one percent of AMS membership are approved as Fellows each year.
