Biography:
I specialize in marine biogeochemistry - an interdisciplinary study of the chemical, physical, geological, and biological processes that determine the chemistry of the ocean. I am a native of Riga, Latvia, growing up on the Baltic Sea. After moving to the U.S. in 1995, I attended Lock Haven University and then Penn State, earning a Ph.D. in Meteorology in 2010. I have been at my current research position since 2014, working with large water quality data sets and numerical models to understand how carbon, oxygen, and other elements cycle in coastal waters.
